An art carving inspired by the mammoth figurine found in Vogelherd cave in Germany. It dates to around 33,000 years old, and is one of the oldest art pieces known to archaeology. The site was excavated in the early 1930's, but it wasn't until 2007 until researchers finally went through all the bags of sediment removed from the cave, and discovered this small carving in the dirt. It was only 37mms across, and it was made of mammoth ivory. Our replica here is NOT a scientific direct molding, in the way our lithic cast series is done by molding the original. This project was a freehand art carving replica in modern white clay, in order to learn about the original, and bring history into the home for the holidays for those who have a passion for history and archaeology.
