This MODERN celt axe is a tested and used experimental tool, finished here in 2024.  It is offered here on the Clearance collection, as USED. It was of proper celt bit convexity when first used, and bit re-ground smooth again, but now slightly past the idea angle.  It would still be useful for teaching collection, or even rehafting in a new handle to test. This stone blank was found in Front Royal, VA, and belived to be a type of Basalt, with bluish/greenish color, and offered now as a teaching example of proper dimensions of celt convexity.  This celt measures 5 and 1/4ths inches long, and 2 and 1/4ths inches wide. The process was started with pecking with quartz rock, and grinding on sandstone/sand slab until proper convex edge demonstrated at bit, with an estimated 30 hours of work involved.  It has no cracks or flaws, but does still show some peck marks from early stages in the middle section, as well as a small vein about 1/3rd back from front, that did not cause any problems in testing. and would be ready again for resharpening, or for hafting and experimentation.
